I absotively posilutely heart Halloween! I mean, what’s not to love? I remember being told very early on by a variety of people that I was a “spooky child.” All Hallows Eve for me was like a confirmation I wasn’t alone in my spookiness. Besides, growing up in Magnolia, MA, a stone’s throw away from Salem, I believe it’s actually a law that you have to like Halloween. If it isn’t, it should be. *grin*
Here are some representations of my love through the years:
Halloween 1970s
1980s
1990s
2000s
Speaking of costumes, our eldest has put together a bunch of DIY projects over the years. I set up a Pinterest board to share her YouTube tutorials. Feel free to take a peek, and be sure to comment on her channel and tell her I sent you.
DIY Halloween
Halloween is coming! Be prepared with video tutorials from my eldest, who has created costumes and/or makeup looks for the most wonderful time of the year, including an angel, three different zombies (including iZombie), a sexy cop, and more! Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more DIY Halloween awesomeness!

Halloween was always a big event in our household, but seldom a terribly spooky one — our costumes were fantastical, rather than creepy. As tiny children, we took turns wearing the traditional costumes — a witch, a devil — but as we got older, we branched out to be Jawas and Gypsies and unexpected objects. For example: one of my sisters dressed up one year as a block of swiss cheese (it was awesome). And there was always the grand pumpkin carving — being frugal Yankees, we saved the seeds and roasted them in the oven (yum!) — so that the front stoop would be properly decorated. Do you know, Fred has never carved a pumpkin in his life? Poor deprived man!
Because of how I’ve been feeling, we kind of lost all ambition to carve pumpkins (or do much of anything) this year. It’s the first time in ages we haven’t had roasted pumpkin seems to munch on. I’m thinking next year, we should kidnap you and Fred for a pre-Halloween celebration, and have him carve a pumpkin! ๐
