About a month ago (specifically July 2nd – I know because I had a Facebook conversation with the eldest about it), I watched the first episode of Sense8 on Netflix. By the end of the hour, I’d cried a couple of times, raised an eyebrow once or twice, and couldn’t wait to find out what the hezmana was going on. Over the next two weeks, I powered my way through the rest of the twelve episode season, finishing just in time to watch the Global Hangout with the cast of Sense8 without having to worry about spoilers. That 45ish minutes made me fall in love with the people who play the characters I already adored.
For those of you unfamiliar with the show, this is the description from Wikipedia (since the official Netflix page only has a 13 word sentence to describe it) –
Sense8 tells the story of eight strangers: Will, Riley, Capheus, Sun, Lito, Kala, Wolfgang, and Nomi, each individual from a different culture and part of the world. While living their everyday lives, they suddenly have a vision of the violent death of a woman called Angelica and find themselves reborn as sensates: otherwise normal human beings who are mentally and emotionally connected, able to communicate, sense, and use each other’s knowledge, language and skills. While trying to live their lives and figure out how and why this connection has happened and what it means, they are aided by another sensate — the mysterious Jonas, who is trying to protect them from another stranger called Whispers, who is similarly empowered and is hunting them down to tap into their psychic link and capture them.
I’ve heard rumors that Netflix will finally get off their duff already announce the pickup of Season 2 tomorrow, because all of the “Sensates” in this cluster were born at the exact same time on August 8th. Hopefully they’ll go one step further and commit to the five season arc envisioned by the shows creators. To sense8 why I love it so much (owie, yeah – that was bad, even for me), check out the Sense8 Brainwave Symphony. In the clip, J. Michael Straczynski (one of the creators of the show) says, “There is something musical about the way the brain works. It is symphony on it’s own terms.”
Yep. We need Season 2 about five minutes ago.
