Anyone who has peeked at my social media knows that I heart Crows. I explain how my obsession interest started in a blog post from last year (Crow-incidents). It’s now gotten to the point that this is a fairly regular occurrence in our house –
Me, sitting at my computer, hubby sitting at his.
“Hon, look! CROW!”
Me, grabs camera.
Or –
Me, sitting at my computer, kidlet comes in to ask something.
“Momma, look! CROW!”
You know what happens next. *grin*
My crows have been especially social lately. I managed to snag a short video of them gathered outside my window on Wednesday. I call it, “Murder most awesome!”
I’ve found that one silver lining in the frigid New England temperatures we’re experiencing is the abundance of birds hanging out in the Avian Eatery, especially the crows. My usual three from last year seemed to have invited the neighbors in. Because of this, I’ve been able to snap about a gazillion pictures of them this week. Here are some of my favorites –
I have a couple of teeny online stores (CafePress and Zazzle) called, “Crows Corner” that I put together mainly for myself (because I want crows on ALL the things). Please be sure to shout out if you’d like to see any of the above shots on things like mousepads, coffee mugs, or greeting cards.
Now if you’ll excuse me, it’s been almost five minutes since I’ve looked out the window. Don’t want them to think I’m neglecting them… *grin*
I can’t say I’ve ever given crows much thought, but they are beautiful in your pictures. And the very fact that a group is called a murder make them intriguing… I’ll have to start paying more attention.
Wicked coolness, CW. Be sure to shout out and let me know if anything interesting happens after you start paying attention. π
Believe it or not, I actually thought of you this morning as I opened my curtains and the first thing I saw was a single crow flying by. It has been a birdie couple of days for me. Yesterday while on my way to work I past by the local elementary school and notice several hundred (swear truth) of seagulls all over the school field and it’s roof. I have seen them before on the field especially after a storm which we had the night before but never this many and never ever on the roof. Then a regular customer told me she had 20-30 crows on her lawn that morning too. I told her she just witnessed a murder π . The obvious conclusion was because of the rain storm but birds are a mystical puzzle to me and the incident left me pondering the hidden meaning. Anyway that’s why I thought about you this morning when I saw the solitary crow cause I thought you would enjoy the story and maybe understand my fascination. Cheers
That’s amazingly magical, DIana! Thanks for thinking of me, and sharing that story. I do the same thing – while I know the practical meaning of things like this, I like to roll it around in my head a bit, to see if I can discern a message from the Universe. Thanks again for shouting out!
Best Crow pictures yet! And the headings are quite funny.
Thank you, Jo. Glad I gave you a giggle or two. π
My very favourite birds are all corvidae & I most especially love ravens. I LOVE ravens. I have pictures of ravens from everywhere I’ve lived, and I tend to talk to them, and I am so in to the whole thing.
I’m sure you’ve heard all the stories of the crows bring presents to the girl in Seattle, yes? Love. Love. http://thewildlife.wbur.org/2015/03/12/the-secrets-of-gift-giving-crows/
OMG, YES! I love the story of the Seattle girl! I’ve had many friends share her story on my FB timeline, and it makes me smile every. single. time. <3
How cool that you have raven pictures like that! Maybe someday you can publish a photo book called, "Ravens and Roamings."
Popping back in to give you this link, which you may know of, but jic. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/crows-understand-analogies/
Wicked awesomesauce, Em! I’ve seen similar articles, but not this particular one – thanks so much for sharing!
Love your crows!
Thanks, Beth. <3
Crows somehow look different to me when seen in a frigid setting. We have plenty of them around. My dog gets annoyed when they come foraging in the backyard. π
I can imagine the snowy background gives them a different look. Our dog tends to bark when he hears them cawing outside, which is handy for when I’m not paying attention. However, since we live in such a rural area, they are usually too well fed to be sociable – I have to entice them into the yard with leftover toast. π
