Into the woods for @parul2411’s #ThursdayTreeLove

My plan for today’s Thursday Tree Love post (hosted by Parul over on her amazing #WordPress blog, Happiness and Food) was to take a bit of a walk into the woods behind our house this morning, and take some shots of one of my favorite tree filled spots.

What is that they say about plans?

After watching the rain pouring down off and on for a few hours, I decided to go through my old photos to see if anything struck my fancy. But the more I looked, the more frustrated I got that my original idea had been thwarted. I decided to step away from my computer & take a bit of a break to clear my head.

That’s when I noticed that while the sky was still gloomy, the rain had stopped, so I thought, “Why not?” grabbed my camera & tripod, then hurried outside.

I got to the edge of the woods just as it started to rain again… 😂

However, I figured I’d grab at least 5 quick shots since I was right there. I’m guessing the Universe was pleased, because as soon as I got my tripod settled on the pine needle covered ground, the drops stopped and I was actually able to get a couple dozen shots before deciding not to press my luck. After looking through them all though, and picking the ones I thought were the most eye catching, guess how many I ended up with for this post? 😊

Last thing before I get to the captures – if you want to join in the Tree love fun, it’s really easy – here’s the description from her latest post today, called #ThursdayTreeLove – 94

Thursday Tree love is a photo feature hosted on this blog on every 2nd and 4th Thursday of a month. The next edition will go live on September 10, 2020. If you would like to play along, post a picture of a tree on your blog and link it back to this post.

If you don’t see the pingback, please leave a link to your post in my comments section. Please make sure that your post’s link is showing up on this latest edition. I will link your posts on my blog in the next edition and spread some love. Let’s come together to appreciate the beautiful nature around us.

Into the woods for some Thursday Tree Love

In the woods 1
One of my favorite spots in the woods that abuts the house we rent. There’s a nice big clearing here that feels like you’re in the middle of a fairy tale forest, but I’m only about 30 or so steps away from the edge of our lawn.

In the woods 2
While standing in the same spot, I turned a little to the right for this shot. Even though some of the leaves are already starting to change, and despite the gloomy weather, everything still looks lush and green.

In the woods 3
This super tall pine tree is just a few steps away from the previous shot. Lots of dead & broken branches, yet it’s still gloriously green.

In the woods 4
The view overhead. I sometimes forget that just because the sun isn’t shining, doesn’t mean I can’t get some beautiful shots of the tree branches against the sky.

In the woods 5
Just as I was about to head back in, I noticed this large old stump was showing some new life. I love stumbling over signs of hope in the most unlikely of places.

Thanks again for giving me the excuse to take a short walk into the woods and snap a few new tree pictures, Parul! And happy Thursday everyone!

  1. Alas, the hundred & fifty year old tree that stood near our apartment window and blanketed us in shade, was cut down by our neighbors for their vegetable garden, which has since mostly withered anyway under the hot L.A. sun.

  2. Love that B/W one at the end. Searching your computer files for an old photo that you know you have somewhere is probably THE most frustrating task IN THE WHOLE WORLD.

  3. I am going to invite myself over once the pandemic is over. 😉 Won’t it be lovely to take a walk together in the woods. I am so glad you were able to step out and the rain stopped too. The shots are gorgeous and full of hope. How I wish the world too was again full of hope. Thanks for joining, Traci and lifting up my mood. I hope to see you back on the 10th! Take care!
