It was this time of year back in 2014 that I’d just finished doing NaBloPoMo, an offshoot (started by the now re-imagined website BlogHer) of NaNoWriMo. In the year that followed, I definitely noticed a big uptick in my blog traffic – so much so that I wrote about it, which then became my first paid for in real cash (instead of a gift certificate to a local restaurant…lol) post.
Since then, I’ve managed to remain fairly consistent – even when there were times I wasn’t feeling it, I still managed to at least post my weekly Tarot Tuesday (although truth be told, I did miss a couple of weeks, most recently back in September). While I haven’t broken down the numbers again, I know I’ve seen some steady growth in my audience over the years.
One of the biggest reasons for that consistency was connecting with other bloggers. I’d stumbled across the #SundayBlogShare and #MondayBlogs tags on Twitter, which led me to an amazing (and sadly gone now) Facebook group, Big Up Your Blog.
Now after a couple of years of blogging on the new-ish social media platform Steemit, and a year and a half of using the SteemPress plugin (my first post with it was on June 5th 2018), I thought it might be cool to try to recreate the vibe of that Facebook community, with a slight twist. I’d like it to be a place where traditional bloggers, blockchain bloggers, and those who do both can all come together and help each other grow.
I know that in the Steem community there are some bloggers who had their WordPress blogs first like @plantstoplanks, @fionasfavourites, and @nickyhavey. Some started their blogs after the plugin became available like @zord189, @chuuuckie, and @miti (at least that’s my understanding, and apologies if I’m misremembering). And there are bunches and bunches of WordPress bloggers who I’d love to see hop on the blockchain like Denzil from Discovering Belgium, Ritu from But I Smile Anyway…, and Bee from Sojourning Smith (and I could list tons more but I’m hoping to get this post out before 2020…lol).
All of which leads me to this…
Introducing the WordPress & SteemPress Bloggers Facebook Community
On November 30th, I created the WordPress & SteemPress Bloggers Facebook community. A few people have already joined (the aforementioned @plantstoplanks and @fionasfavourites, as well as @paulag), and I’m planning that as the group grows, so will our activities. I’ve started tweeting out posts with the #WPSPBlogs, and I’m hoping this will be a place to talk about growing your blog traffic, managing your SEO, and answering questions about blockchain blogging.
I might not know everything there is to know, but I know lots of very awesomesauce people who are extremely helpful and who I can nag ask for answers! 😂
Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, I’m kinda hoping for a merging like that scene from Xanadu…lol
So if you’re interested, please feel free to drop on by the Facebook group, answer a couple of easy questions, and let’s use the power of community to help take our blogging to new heights!
Thanks for stopping by!
