Yes, I know today isn’t Witchy Wednesday, but since it’s the birthday of the first person in the US to openly admit being Wiccan, I decided a shout out was in order. I bought my copy of Uncle Bucky’s Big Blue Book soon after hubby bought Cunningham’s book in ’91, and it’s been part of my witchy library ever since.
I created a new graphic for the occasion – the picture is from my Ostara ritual, back in 2000. Happy birthday, Raymond Buckland! May all your birthday wishes come true!
“As in all the rituals I offer, it’s actually far better that you use your own words and speak “from the heart.” You can study the rituals as I’ve presented them, and get a good sense of them, then use the words that come to you at the time. This way you are not attached to a piece of paper or book. But do be sure you have a good understanding of what you are saying and doing, and when, so that you can perform the ritual without having to concentrate on the words and hence lose the “feel” of the rite itself.” ~ Raymond Buckland, “Wicca For One: The Path Of Solitary Witchcraft”
Well I had no idea I was sharing my birthday with a Wiccan luminary! Good to know. Happy Birthday Raymond Buckland.
Coolness, Diana! Happy birthday to you as well – hope you have a magical day!
This is a wonderful post! Loved it.
Thanks! Funny, I just finished leaving a comment on your blog, and found this one from you! 🙂
Well happy birthday to Raymond Buckland, who I’ve never heard of before this day but is obviously very important to you and your spiritual life! Very neat visual. Happy celebrating!
Thanks, Jess!
I didn’t realize that being openly Wiccan was such a recent development. I kept clicking on Buckland and thinking that there must have been someone before. Which took me into a bunch of readings on Wicca. Totally fascinating stuff.
Yep – even when I self-dedicated in ’91, I stayed in the broom closet for many years. Any time I went out wearing my pentacle, I was on alert – and I’m from the state that declared Laurie Cabot the official witch of Salem, MA! Fun side effect of it though – sometimes, when people see my witchy jewelry, they’ll say, “Hey, I like your necklace/ring/earrings” which is code for, “Hey, I’m a witch too!” Glad you enjoyed the post, Mel.
Fun and fascinating. Thank you!
You’re very welcome – thanks for dropping by!
Wow Traci… I had no idea these things existed anymore… much less be in the limelight. I am quite intrigued and will be back to read more!
Coolness, anks! Feel free to shout out and ask me questions at any time. 🙂
