MM – Inadvertent validation

I love moments of inadvertent validation. I’m exactly one week away from the 12 week post-surgical mark, and I’ve been starting to focus on diet and exercise again. Yesterday, our youngest helped me setup MyFitnessPal on my phone. She’d apparently grown weary of hearing, “Yeah, I’ll check that out someday soon.” As she was going through the process, filing out the info and explaining how it worked, she got to the section asking about normal daily activities. She listed off the choices for me, then answered it herself, saying, “Well, you’re a writer, so I’d say you have as active a lifestyle as a bank teller or other desk job (the examples noted on the app).”

Wait.

Did she just call me a writer?

Yep – the heck with getting in shape. She said I’m a writer! *happy dance*

Have you had any, “Eureka!” moments like that? Please shout out in the comment section and share your happy dances. The more, the merrier!

Oh, and I created this graphic yesterday, after I snapped a shot of a Tufted Titmouse hanging out on a Shagbark Hickory tree, and this seems like a good post to share it. Hope you have a magical Monday!

  1. Beautiful meme! Congratulations on being labeled a writer by your daughter, that must feel so awesome! I feel like a moment for me was when a particularly challenging student from last year wrote me an email this year to tell me that 9th grade was going so much better and “thank you for always helping me last year, I appreciate it.” WHOA. Also a student this year sought me out during homeroom to talk to me about a book I’d recommended to her that she is LOVING. All wonderful ways I feel validated as a teacher who makes a difference in her students! I’d say validation is a beautiful thing and keeps you going on those tough days when you doubt yourself. Congrats on 12 weeks post surgery!

  2. Isn’t it curious that validation from our children is so important. My children rarely say affirming things to my face but then out of the blue I hear from one of their friends that they were bragging about my talents. Back door validations work too. πŸ™‚

  3. I had a similar moment happen just a few days ago. While expressing the wish that I were her yoga teacher at school (which I would love to be, but am not), my almost 16-yo daughter went into a detailed explanation of the mind-body connection that she credits me with teaching her during my now one-year-long journey as a yoga teacher. Woot!

Feel free to shout out!
