“NaNoWriMo has begun,
So much writing, so much fun
If you type words every day
You will win a novel.” ~ Traci York
(apologies to the Teacher’s Meeting rhyme from my childhood)
Once more into the fray that is 1,667 words written every day for the month of November. This year, I’m working on the fifth novel in my yet-unpublished Maeve Sawyer series. The working title is, “Aground.” You call follow my progress over on the official site, if you’re so inclined, or shout out and add me as a buddy.
I created these graphics for the occasion. Happy writing, everyone!
“Writing is not like dancing or modeling; it’s not something where – if you missed it by age 19 – you’re finished. It’s never too late. Your writing will only get better as you get older and wiser. If you write something beautiful and important, and the right person somehow discovers it, they will clear room for you on the bookshelves of the world – at any age. At least try.” ~ Elizabeth Gilbert “NaNoWriMo has begun, So much writing, so much fun, If you type words every day, You will win a novel.” ~ Traci York.(apologies to the Teacher’s Meeting rhyme from my childhood). Good luck! I did NaNoWriMo a few years ago, and enjoyed it so much I kept writing to finish the novel after November was over. The novel wasn’t much. It sits in my writing program in neglected files. But it was fun. And that was a revelation. One day, maybe …
Thank you, Mali! I have about six first drafts on my hard drive at the moment, thanks to NaNo. I think enjoying the writing is a huge part of the battle, so I have no doubt you’l have a novel out in the world some day. 🙂
Love the graphics, and the Elizabeth Gilbert quote. I would love to do NANOWRIMO one day, because it sounds like fun and making space for more writing, but I fear this is not the year. Trying to squeeze too many things into a 24 hour day has me tired. Have fun and good luck!
Thanks, Jess! I completely get the inability to squeeze more into a day. I hope you get the chance to participate in NaNo some year – I’ve done it every year since 2007 (only lost two of those years). and it’s one of the best ways I’ve found to get inspired. Thanks again!
I’m always inspired by those who do Nanowrimo. But not enough to try it myself!
Love your poem and the EG quote. Good luck in November!
Thank you, Lori! I can’t imagine why you wouldn’t try NaNo – I mean, you don’t have a TON of stuff on your plate already or anything, right? *grin*
Hey all the best for NaNoWrMo. Keep writing 🙂
Thank you very much, bespectacled! 😀
Yoy can call me Anamika for all practical reasons 😀
Ahh, then thank you Anamika. 🙂
Happy scrivening! I know you’ll have another successful NaNoWrMo this year — and then you can investigate formatting your novels for Kindle and getting them up on Amazon as self-published books (if Jim Hines can do it, so can you!). 🙂
LOL! For a moment, I wondered how you knew I had the NaNo Scrivener software downloaded on my rig. Then my brain woke up. 😀
Thank you for the vote of confidence, thinky! I have to say, I reread last year’s NaNo, in preparation for this one, and I wasn’t as horrified by it as I expected. I’m beginning to think I should stop waiting for my plot to magically transform into something worthy of Butcher or Martin, and just publish my fluffy (but hopefully enjoyable) series already. I might even edit it first! 😛
Oh my G-d, I love that: you will win a novel. Because that’s what it is — except it’s a contest where everyone can win if they keep plodding forward with the writing.
Thanks, Mel! When the jingle started bouncing around in my head, one of the first lines that popped into my brain was, “You will win a novel.” Next, I gotta figure out how to “win” a fully edited novel. *grin*
Good luck! I am not NaNo material but I wish very well for all who are, esp. you!
Thank you so much, illustr8d! Much appreciated. 🙂
Yay you. Happy writing.
Thank you, middle girl!
