Mel, the creative genius behind #MicroblogMondays, asked the question today, “What would be your top three books to wear, not read?” The three that immediately sprang to my mind (even before my coffee kicked in) were –
Storm Front by Jim Butcher
Illusions by Richard Bach
Stardust by Neil Gaiman
It then occurred to me that I’ve created visual quotes (who want to grow up someday to be memes) from each author, using my photographs. I thought it would be a lazy great way to meld Musing Monday with National Photography Month, so here are three of my favorites. Oh, and be sure to share some of your favorite quotes in the comment section – who knows, it might inspire my next Monday post. *grin*
Three Favorite Quotes “Magic comes from what is inside you. It is a part of you. You can’t weave together a spell that you don’t believe it.” ~ Jim Butcher
Three Favorite Quotes “You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true. You may have to work for it, however.” ~ Richard Bach, Illusions
Three Favorite Quotes “Stories, like people and butterflies and songbirds’ eggs and human hearts and dreams, are also fragile things, made up of nothing stronger or more lasting than twenty-six letters and a handful of punctuation marks. Or they are words on the air, composed of sounds and ideas-abstract, invisible, gone once they’ve been spoken-and what could be more frail than that? But some stories, small, simple ones about setting out on adventures or people doing wonders, tales of miracles and monsters, have outlasted all the people who told them, and some of them have outlasted the lands in which they were created.” ~ Neil Gaiman, Fragile Things: Short Fictions and Wonders
“Not sure what #MicroblogMondays is?
Read the inaugural post which explains
the idea and how you can participate too.”
~ Melissa S. Ford, Stirrup Queens
Confession: I haven’t read any of those books. But I like the last quote the best!
I have a confession as well, Stephanie – while I’ve read lots of Gaiman’s books, I haven’t read the one that the quote is from either. But it’s on my (ever-growing) list. 🙂
New items for my reading list! Thank you for sharing them.
And I love the first quote/meme. Absolutely beautiful.
You’re welcome, Cristy! Hope you enjoy them all as much as I do (yes, I reread them from time to time *grin*). And thank you!
Words to live by. Thanks for the wisdom magic.
You’re very welcome, Diana. Some day, I hope to write such wise words – for now, I’m happy to steal the…, I mean, share them on my pictures. 😀
Gaiman’s work is amazing. He makes me dream.
Completely agree, Mel.
I loved the second quote. It’s going on my office white board tomorrow and I will tweet a picture for you 🙂
Haven’t read any of those books. My TBR list keeps on growing.
Wicked coolness, Parul! I can’t wait to see it! 😀
And yes, I have the same issue with my TBR list. 🙂
I love that!
“We must be willing to get rid of the life we’ve planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” — Joseph Campbell
Ooo, that’s a good one, Deathstar! Thanks for sharing!
I love these! And I love the idea of believing in magic but also your own inherent ability to work to make that magic happen. One of my favorites: “New beginnings are often disguised as painful endings.” – Lao Tzu
Thanks, Jess! And thank you for sharing that quote – I’ve heard variations of it before, and it’s so true.
