Happy Moon Monday! What the hezmana is that, you say? Well, for the past couple of months, I’ve been sharing some of my moon pictures and it’s always on Mondays! Today, I’m sharing photos and a couple of videos I captured of the Full Sturgeon Moon on August 15th 2019, as well as some from the following night on the 16th.
The photos & video from the 15th were taken with my Nikon (which I talk about in this post) whilst making use of my handy dandy tripod, in our Durham New Hampshire yard.
However, on the 16th, I was out and about that night with hubby, and without my camera. We were driving through Hampton NH, and the moon was so gorgeous over the water that hubby pulled over so I could get some pictures. He’d recently gotten me a new phone (a Samsung Galaxy A50 – the Amazon listing isn’t exactly my phone, but it’s close enough) as a belated birthday present, so this was an awesome way to take it out for a test drive, so to speak.
Oh, and as for why it’s called Sturgeon Moon, here’s the explaination from The Farmers’ Almanac
August’s Moon, known as the “Sturgeon Moon” turns 100% full on the 15th at 8:29 a.m. ET. But how did it get that name?
The fishing tribes of North America are given credit for the naming of August’s Moon, since sturgeon, a large fish of the Great Lakes and other major bodies of water, were most readily caught during this month.
A few tribes knew it as the Full Red Moon because, as the Moon rises, it appears reddish through any sultry haze. It was also called the Green Corn Moon or Grain Moon.
Now on to my photos, and two short videos (for ambiance 😊).

And here is a 42 second video (which moved a bit more than I expected, considering my camera was on a tripod) of the night sounds during the full moon. I also zoomed out towards the end, to see if it would show how the sky was lit up, but the exposure didn’t adjust as I’d hoped.

Last, but not least, a 14 second video featuring the sound of the waves crashing, which was remarkably steady given I was leaned up against the seawall, with my arms braced on top, using my camera phone. Go figure, eh? 😂

Some of the shots actually capture a pinkish haze around the Red Moon.
