For #SteemBloPoMo Day 28, I figured I’d submit my entry (with like, minutes to spare before the deadline!😂 ) for another one of @zord189‘s wicked awesomesauce Power House Creatives contest. I actually planned to have this done yesterday, but the Universe (and our empty fridge) had other ideas.
Speaking of, if you’re interested in joining up with the Power House Creatives group, check out this post Would YOU like to become a part of a #STEEM POWERHOUSE?. Also, feel free to shout out and ask me any questions – I’m always happy to chat about this awesomesauce community!
Here are the contest requirements…
Contest : The Happiness Mantra
This is a positive prompt contest. I always love reading a post that is drama free and one of the qualities I’ve found to prevent a post from being all just drama and rants is happiness and positivity. The only reason why most dramas boil and gets expressed in a post/facebook/instagram/etc is because usually there are a certain resentment or disappointment.
For this contest, come up with a one sentence happiness mantra you can say to yourself each morning. Here are a few examples, but come up with something you think will work for you and share with us how and why this mantra would work in your life/daily routine/your perspective of things/etc.
-Today I will breathe in happiness and breathe out anger
-Today I will pay attention to the small things that bring me joy
-Today I will keep love in my heart
…and here is my entry!
My Happiness Mantra
My first thought for this contest was to come up with something silly (because goofiness is my superpower). However, the more I thought about this contest, the more it occurred to me that while I don’t have a specific mantra that I use to get myself through the day, I do have a framework of one that pops in my brain whenever I need a little encouragement (so it’s basically taken up permanent residence in my frontal lobe).
It’s…
Only blank more blank, and then I can blank
For example, when I walk into the kitchen, and see the mountain of dishes piled beside the sink, on the stove, spilling over to the kitchen table, I lose my brain and run through the house screaming, DO YOUR OWN DAMN DISHES take a deep breath, get started washing, and say…
“Only five more minutes of washing dishes, then I can have another cup of coffee.”
Each time the five minutes runs out, I give it a go for another five. Next thing I know, the dishes are done!
It’s also great for exercising. When I’m outside walking on the days that my Essential Tremor is acting up, or my Fibromyalgia/Osteoarthritis is causing pain (so, most days ending in “y”), I’ll say to myself…
“Only ten more steps, then I can turn around and go inside to get a snack.”
After the first ten steps, I’ll do it again. Then I’ll get to the point it’s only a bit further to the halfway point around the house, so since it’s just as far to go back as to go forward, I keep going forward. Next thing I know, I’ve made it ’round the whole house!
I find this also works as encouragement to stop things I shouldn’t be doing. When I find myself obsessively retweeting #seven77 tweets spending more time on Twitter than I should, I’ll say something like…
“Only five more retweets, then I can go get some chocolate.”
Some times it actually works, although I still have far too many moments like…
To be fair, this isn’t my original idea, but I have no clue where I first stumbled across it. I’m guessing it was an exercise from one of my psychology classes (did I ever mention I was a psych major in college), or in one of the bazillion self help books I’ve read over the years. Regardless, I hope someone finds it useful, and remember…
Oh wait! I copied the wrong gif! I have no idea where that came from… 😉 😊
I meant, remember…
