Tomorrow is National Pet Day!
From the official site –
National Pet Day was founded in 2006 by Pet & Family Lifestyle Expert, Animal Welfare Advocate Colleen Paige, to celebrate the joy pets bring to our lives and to create public awareness about the plight of many different kinds of animals awaiting a forever home in shelters and rescues all around the globe.
Here are our two pets, Sid (short for Obsidian, who adopted us in 2004) and Sandy (rescue dog named before we got him in 2015, who was abandoned on a beach) –
I’m celebrating, in part, by clicking on this (haven’t done so in far too long).
These are a handful of the suggestions from the official page (click here to see the complete list) –
~ Adopt a pet from your local shelter or pure breed rescue organization.
~ Volunteer at your local shelter and offer to care for the animals.
~ Donate blankets, food and toys to a favorite animal welfare organization.
~ Assist an ill, elderly or a financially struggling neighbor or friend by purchasing pet food, hay or needed items for their pets.
~ Buy your pet a fun new toy….or two…or five.
However you celebrate, I hope it’s a happy one for you and the pets in your life!

the idea and how you can participate too.”

I clicked! π Aw, they are so sweet together. Like Yin and Yang. I love black kitties, and we have two — one all black (Lucky) and one with tuxedo white markings (Abner). They are sweet rescues. I love that your dog and your cat are basically the same size.
It’s funny how their temperaments are Yin and Yang too – Sid is totally chill, and Sandy is totally hyper! Ooo, your kitties sound gorgeous, Jess!
I did my part .. I clicked . to your pets.
Hugs to your pets
Thanks so much, Shilpa!
Ahhh such sweet babies, they are gorgeous cheeky rascals! Xx
They both certainly have personality plus! We’re so lucky to have them. <3
Your furbabies are so cute! Our cat and dog are so important to us and bring us a lot of joy!
Thanks, Jo! I certainly can’t imagine life without either of them, so I completely agree!
Tomorrow is Pet Day? Wait till Luci hears about it! π π She’ll want another squeaky toy and lots of treats π Thanks for letting me know!
And your pets are gorgeous!
LOL! You’re very welcome, Shail – I’d hate to see poor Luci miss out! And thanks in return! π
So cute! Especially the last one! We had a black cat when I was younger that looked just like your Sid.
Thanks, Stephanie! We had a black & white cat growing up named Patches, but Sid is our first all black. I love how panther like they look!
I’m not sure that we have a National Pet Day here, but it sounds like a good idea. Your pets look lovely, but they could never meet mine, who are chickens.
Yep, both of our guys like to chase furry and feathered creatures, so it wouldn’t be a good match. Hope your chickens are still doing well April, and are avoiding that nasty flu!
They are well, thank you, Traci. They don’t like being kept in, but the restrictions should end at the end of the month.
What a bunch of cuties!!!!!
Yeah, they’re definitely keepers, Katie! π
Such cute pets.
Thanks so much, GC! π
Ooooh, now I’m feeling badly that I just told Linus that he needed to wait for his morning cuddle. He gets an extra cookie today.
I love black cats. And yours is gorgeous.
Poor Linus – I’m sure he won’t mind once he gets his extra treat!
I’ll pass that along to Sid, since he never gets tired of being adored.
I love how Jess said Sandy and Sid are like yin and yang. Thanks for pointing out Pet Day! I didn’t really want a pet, but my husband and I decided a few years ago to give in to our kids’ pleas, so we went to the local shelter and ended up with the most amazing dog EVER (sorry to all others who think their dog is the most amazing). Of course, Dexter has become MY dog. People in my house know not to ask me who my favorite is.
I’m going to take him for a walk and play with him in honor of your post.
Funny how they sneak into our hearts like that. And judging by the pictures I’ve seen of Dexter, I’d say he is definitely pretty amazing. Hope he enjoyed his walk and playtime, Lori! π
Ha ha! Two peas in a pod! I love it!
Thanks, Risa! π
