When I first joined Steemit over a year ago (although I wasn’t active until this time last year), I remember hearing about @mariannewest‘s #freewrite prompt, and added it to my mental To Do list. I think I even joined a Discord server that talked about it (spacing on the name at the moment – see what happens when I don’t prepare before I free write…lol). Oh, and last February I did a month of photographs as writing prompts myself (#PhotoFlashFiction), although I don’t think I ever actually wrote a prompt myself.
So much thinking about doing, and so little doing!
Earlier this week, I decided I needed to pick a day, and do the 5 minute freewrite, no matter what the prompt was. I figured Friday would be a perfect day to do some freewriting. So a short time ago I checked Marianne’s profile and found that the prompt for today is…
Ugh, okay, I can do this, right? I can come up with some kind of flash fiction framework and use sequins as the punchline. Oh, maybe I can have the main characters from my unpublished novels (Maeve and Jack) have some sort of Christmas conundrum that ends with one or the other (or both) wearing something sequined (and in the least sexy way, because that’s how they roll).
Or, I could stop overthinking already, and just write about… oh drat. The timer on my phone just went off. So there’s nothing left for me to do, other than to include an old selfie that’s been sequinned up for the occasion…
