Today, in addition to being hubby’s birthday (happy birthday, hon! I love you!), was the first time our eldest got to vote. Needless to say, proud momma managed (with permission from the gentleman in charge) to snap a picture as she entered the booth.
It was also a bit of a trip down memory lane, given that we now live on the outskirts of the town where the college I attended a million years ago is situated (wow, say that three times fast). I hardly ever go through town – everything we need is located elsewhere, so the many changes taking place kind of hit me all at once. The huge buildings where old houses used to be. The three ugly colored buildings at the end of Main Street are completely gone, as is the apartment hubby & I lived for a short time at the beginning of our relationship. The most dramatic change was the age of the students, standing in line with our daughter as they waited to register. They all claimed to be over eighteen, but I’d swear they were no more than fifteen, tops. When I was in school, I know we all looked much more worldly and mature. Seriously – quick, someone loan me a time machine and I’ll prove it.
How exciting, that first voting experience is! I still remember mine, and how important it felt to finally be having a say at the polls…congrats to your eldest! π
Thanks – I’ll pass your congrats along the the eldest. π
