I had a rather difficult time writing today’s post about the upcoming Dark Moon in Virgo (and not just because my brain is melting, thanks to another 1,000 degree day). In this past year, as I’ve rediscovered my witchy side, I’ve been reading, researching, and reacquainting myself with basic ritual protocol, but since I’m more eclectic Witch than eclectic Wiccan these days, I’m finding conflicting information. For example, Solar Eclipses are a great time to perform spell work. Nope, wait – Solar Eclipses are notoriously unpredictable, and spell work should be avoided. No, actually they are more like a cosmic reboot, and targeted spell work will be extra powerful. *sigh*
For this Dark Moon, I’ve decided to err on the side of caution, especially since my latest favorite source of witchy information says this –
“During the Dark of the Moon, Hecate, the Goddess in her aspect of queen of the underworld rules, and some witches have been known to call upon her dark powers to perform negative workings at this time. Better to take a break from magic and relax and meditate during this time.” ~ Elizabeth Williams, The Smart Witch
I think at some time in the future, once I’m on better footing magically speaking, I’ll use this time to do some banishing and cleansing spells. But for this Dark Moon in Virgo, I think I’ll do some meditations, and start preparing myself mentally and physically for a surgical procedure looming in the near future.
How does the Solar Eclipse affect your magical workings? Have you had a spell go terribly wrong/especially strong during times like this? Please shout out in the comment section below – I’d love to hear what other people have experienced.
Solar Eclipses are for releasing – just like the dark moon! Also perfect for meditation because the 3 days of the dark moon were traditional times for women’s bleeding (before electricity & modern day practices threw us off balance). Dark moons are perfect times to release to the Dark Moon Mother!
“Gone now to the Dark Moon Mother for healing and transformation!” is what I say.
Virgo – the Harvest Goddess – discerning the wheat from the chaff of life. Gratitude for the abundance and composting that which does not serve us.
So these times are perfect for rituals!
Love, Melissa
Wicked excellent, Melissa! This is exactly the kind of response I was hoping for. I have extra appreciation for your comment, knowing how crazy busy your life is at the moment – thanks so much for chiming in!
Okay, who’s next? *grin*
I find this exciting, a little scary and straight out of a book! All the best for your Surgery Traci π
Thanks, anks! π
