Spring is springing! Of course, this coming weekend has a different “S” word in the weather predictions, thanks to an approaching Nor’easter, so much like my ritual last year, my Ostara 2016 celebration will be a simplified (and probably indoor) affair.
In brief – I’ll spend some time (hopefully before the weekend, but knowing me, it will probably be at the last minute) cleaning my desk (which is my primary altar/ritual space), and decorating it with some seasonal items like spring blossoms, seeds, and most importantly – chocolate bunnies. Yes, of course chocolate bunnies are important. First off, they’re a symbol of the Sabbat. Then there’s the fact that chocolate is always an important component of any good magic spell. Oh, and if it’s a Lindt chocolate bunny, part of the proceeds go to a good cause –
Autism affects one in 68 children and countless family members and friends. With help from the iconic Lindt GOLD BUNNY, the only bunny that gives back, Lindt has donated more than $700,000 to Autism Speaks over the past seven years. These funds help Autism Speaks support individuals with autism and their families through a variety of ways, including educational toolkits for newly diagnosed families, grants for community programs, and scholarship funding to educational institutions, among many others, proving that one small bunny can make one big difference.
When the time comes to do my simple ritual, I’ll inscribe two white tea light candles – one with the plus sign, and one with the negative. After I ground and center, I’ll light the candles, and spend some time contemplating the things I want to banish from my life, the things I want to attract, and how I can go about achieving both. Then of course, I’ll snack on the bunny for my simple feast.
Here’s the graphic I created for the occasion.
Spring Equinox. March 20, 2016 at 12:30am EDT. Ostara is opposite Mabon (Fall Equinox) on the Wheel of the Year. Day and night are equally long, but from now until Mabon, there will be more light than darkness. Colors β yellow, sky blue, pink, green. Symbols β Eggs, flowers, seeds, rabbits. Ritual work β New ideas, projects, beginnings, planting, fertility, banishing negative and attracting positive, and growth.
Bright Ostara blessings to all!
I bought chocolate Lindt bunnies today for the altar! How nice to know that they’re helpful bunnies as well.
I am so behind on everything, that it looks like my celebration will happen tomorrow! I know. I did have a lovely Ostara today, though. And ate an egg salad sandwich. And got the aforementioned bunnies. π
Sounds lovely, Em! I didn’t end up doing what I’d planned either, since I’m so behind as well. π
