Thanks to all the witchy Facebook pages I follow, I know the first Mercury Retrograde of 2015 is here. I also know that Wednesdays are ruled by Mercury, so today’s MR is even more significant, but since I’m still in “blowing the cobwebs off my witch’s broom” mode, I don’t have any personal words of wisdom as to what that means.
What I do know is where to find information about it. Here’s what The Old (since 1792!) Farmer’s Almanac has to say about that spinney little planet –
Sometimes the other planets appear to be traveling backward through the zodiac; this is an illusion. We call this illusion retrograde motion.
Mercury’s retrograde periods can cause our plans to go awry. However, this is an excellent time to reflect on the past. Intuition is high during these periods, and coincidences can be extraordinary.
When Mercury is retrograde, remain flexible, allow time for extra travel, and avoid signing contracts. Review projects and plans at these times, but wait until Mercury is direct again to make any final decisions.
So this year, the dates to be aware of are –
January 21st to February 11th
May 19th to June 11th
September 17th to October 9th
I checked out another site to get the skinny on the magical significance of Wednesdays, and this is what I discovered on The White Goddess website –
Wednesday – The Day of Mercury
Magical aspects: the conscious mind, study, travel, divination, and wisdom. This is the best day to engage in anything dealing with communication.
With Wednesday brings the beauty of luck, the satisfaction of psychic work, increased communication and the retail success that it brings. If you feel that lady luck has been rather mean with her glances recently, it might be worth asking for a little extra something on a Wednesday and await the returns.
This is the proper day of the week to perform spells and rituals involving communication, divination, writing, knowledge, business transactions, teaching, reason, skill, self-improvement, debt, fear, loss, intellectual pursuits, and flexibility.
Put the two together, and this is a very good day to avoid (if possible) dealing with any communication issues. However, this entire MR period is great for clearing things out, especially closets (be they in your house or in your brain). I plan to spend the next few weeks getting rid of clutter in the hall, clutter in our bedroom, and clutter in my head. And whilst I’m cleaning, I’ll be singing this refrain –

Great, that first period is the one during which I was hoping for a cure for my back troubles… :-\
