A new month means a new @yourtop3 contest, for the first time in its new home on the Hive platform. And it’s a very topical topic this go ’round indeed – we get to pick our Top 3 Lockdown Essentials! So here they are!
My Top 3 Lockdown Essentials
Nomination 1 – Internet
REASON
Given that one of my aka’s happens to be, “InternetG33k” (g33k = geek in leetspeak…lol), I suppose it’s no big surprise this would top my top 3 list. For all the expected reasons too – connection with family, friends, and the worldwide community as well as access to news, information, books, and entertainment. While it’s easy to get lost (as well as overwhelmed) by it all, it is still something that is helping me keep what little sanity I have left.
Nomination 2 – Television
REASON
While television is another great source of news, I’ve actually been using it more for entertainment/distraction purposes. Whether binge-watching new series like Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist, or new-to-me series like Younger (thanks again to Staci Layne Wilson for pointing me in its direction over on Instagram!), or re-watching an old favorite like Farscape, it’s one of things that helps to stop my mind from wandering… where it will go… oh yeah, and that reminds me I’ve also been re-watching new favorite movies like Yesterday!
Nomination 3 – Family
REASON
We’ve actually been in a bit of an opposite lockdown kind of thing (which sounds so much worse than it is…lol!). When hubby hurt his shoulder in August and wasn’t able to drive, and for various reasons our three kids (grown and still living here with us) weren’t able to drive much, we were pretty much homebodies for months. It became even more so over the winter, especially after hubby’s short term disability insurance stopped paying him (essentially over typos – long story for another day) – no paycheck means no money to go out! Late February, after only getting one paycheck since the beginning of the year, he pushed to get back to work on light duty so he could get paid regularly again. He got approved the first week in March, and went back to work on the 9th. New Hampshire was told to stay home on March 27th but since hubby is a cable tech, he’s considered essential. Now he works five days a week (in a warehouse office with a very small staff) while the three kids and I (as well as everyone else around us) stays home.
At any rate as I said – our three are still home with us and we’re all finding ways to talk about what’s going on, vent when necessary, distract when necessary, and basically help keep each other stay balanced. I know I’ve joked many times about being perfectly happy on a remote island far, far away from people with only my cat for company (what writer witch gamer introvert hasn’t?), but this is a situation where I really appreciate having some very cool, interesting, and otherwise awesomesauce (and I’m not just saying that because I’m completely biased!) people here with me.
Those are my choices! And while the contest prizes are limited to bloggers on the Hive blockchain, I figure there are lots of bloggers out there who might want to share what things are getting them through lockdown too. Instead of offering crypto prizes like the @yourtop3 crew, I thought I’d offer a little social media exposure instead.
So if anyone wants to jump aboard and share your Top 3 Lockdown Essentials, please feel free to drop a link to your own post (no time limit) in my comment section (along with your Twitter handle, if you have one), and I’ll do my best to take a peek and give it a tweet!
One last thing – a big thank you to the awesomesauce peeps behind this monthly crypto contest (now with the wicked awesomesauce addition of a Champions League!) @plantstoplanks, @nickyhavey, @foxyspirit, and @cheese4ead – you guys and gals ROCK!
Thanks for stopping by!

I agree about the Internet. In my case it’s YouTube rather than TV, but I’m watching rather more of it than is good for me. I thought books would be in my top three, but it’s cross stitch at the moment.
